Study Plan and Internship

Study plan

The course will have a duration of 10 months, beginning on December 01, 2022. Educational activities will take place online on the Moodle and Webex platforms to which students will have access.

You will be assessed in the following areas:

  • Paediatric clinical care (general items)
  • Neuropsychological development and characteristics of infants, children and adolescents
  • Aetiological and pathophysiological basis, clinical pictures, diagnostic and management plans of the main paediatric haematological, renal, cardio-pulmonary, gastrointestinal, rheumatic, metabolic, infectious and neurological diseases
  • Child physiology and pathologies behind critical illness and injury in children and adolescents
  • Clinical genomics, genetic and rare diseases
  • Molecular biology of normal development and birth defects
  • Applied statistics for paediatric and health research
  • Molecular and clinical aspects of childhood cancers
  • Essentials concepts and controversies in global child health
  • Endocrine physiology and pathology
  • Metabolism disorders
  • Nutrition in paediatrics and paediatric diseases
  • Growth physiology and pathologies
  • Disorders of the hypothalamus and pituitary
  • Disorders of the thyroid
  • Disorders of the adrenals
  • Sexual differentiation anomalies
  • Disorders of parathyroids, calcium and bone
  • Disorders of hydroelectrolytic, lipids, amino acids and carbohydrates metabolism
  • Nutritional pathology: obesity and eating disorders
  • Rare diseases and genetic syndromes, particularly those of auxological and endocrinological interest

Learning and teaching methods

The syllabus includes a theory component, wide-ranging clinical practice involving tutor-supported collaboration in care duties, clinical sessions and seminars, practical training in specific techniques within the specialty, and a research project.

• Delivered entirely online

• Self-directed learning with tutor support and guidance

• Elective modules available in 2nd semester

• In-depth study in an area of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes in your 2nd semester

• Typical study time of 10 hours each week

The professional project involves writing up to 10,500 words on a practice issue.

You will be assigned a supervisor to guide you.

 

 

Internship

The internship will take place mainly in the countries where students are residing in facilities to be identified by the Master's Coordinator, or during periods of study in loco or in Dakar, Senegal, in the period of August 2023.

The credits foreseen for the internship are awarded to the student upon attestation by the Master’s Coordinator that the internship has been regularly carried out.
